When cancer treatment shifts from cure to comfort, Aasta comes to your home. Fewer hospital trips. Better pain control. More time with the people you love.
Our team manages the pain, the nausea and fatigue, and the emotional weight your whole family is carrying. This is the work we do every day.
We work with your oncologist, never around them. Our nurses, social workers, and chaplains become part of your existing team. Everything happens at home. Your loved one is never alone.
Cancer symptoms need specialized care. Every service here is built for what cancer patients and families actually face.
Cancer pain requires specialized expertise. Our nurses work closely with physicians to manage pain through medications, positioning, and comfort protocols, keeping your loved one as comfortable as possible at every stage.
Nausea, fatigue, breathlessness, loss of appetite, our team is trained to manage the full range of cancer symptoms so your loved one can spend their time living, not suffering.
We talk directly with your oncologist, radiation team, or cancer center. Nothing falls through the cracks. Your family shouldn't have to be the messenger.
A cancer diagnosis affects the entire family. Our licensed social workers provide counseling, practical guidance, and emotional support for caregivers and loved ones throughout the journey, not just at the end.
Our chaplains provide spiritual support across all beliefs and traditions. For many cancer patients and families, this dimension of care becomes one of the most meaningful parts of the journey.
We provide cancer hospice care at private residences, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, and board and care homes across Simi Valley, Bakersfield, Northridge, and surrounding areas.
We support families with any advanced cancer diagnosis. Our team has deep experience with these types:
One phone call. We coordinate with your oncologist and your insurance.
Reach out directly or ask your oncologist or hospital discharge team to refer you to Aasta. We respond within hours and can answer every question about what hospice means for your specific diagnosis.
A registered nurse visits to assess symptoms, confirm eligibility, verify insurance, and explain exactly what our cancer care team will do. We coordinate directly with your oncologist from this point forward.
Your dedicated care team, nurse, social worker, aide, and chaplain, begins visits on a schedule built around your loved one's needs. Pain management and comfort begin immediately.
Generally, curative treatments like chemotherapy are not continued under the Medicare Hospice Benefit, as hospice shifts focus from curing to comforting. However, low-dose chemotherapy used solely for symptom control, not cure, may be considered on a case-by-case basis after discussion between the patient's oncologist and our hospice medical director. Every situation is unique and we will always be transparent about what is and isn't covered.
Hospice is appropriate when a physician estimates a prognosis of six months or less if the disease runs its natural course. For cancer patients, signs that it may be time include declining response to treatment, significant weight loss, increasing pain or symptoms, and a shift in goals toward comfort over cure. Research consistently shows that families who enroll earlier report better pain management and higher overall satisfaction. When in doubt, call us, a conversation costs nothing.
Yes, the Medicare Hospice Benefit covers 100% of hospice services for qualifying cancer patients, including nursing visits, medications related to the cancer diagnosis, medical equipment, home health aide visits, social worker visits, chaplain services, and bereavement support. Most patients pay nothing out of pocket. Medi-Cal also provides full coverage for qualifying California residents.
Absolutely. We coordinate directly with the oncology team, sharing care plans, communicating changes in condition, and ensuring nothing falls through the cracks. We see ourselves as an extension of the existing care team, not a replacement for it. Many oncologists actively refer their patients to Aasta because they trust our communication and clinical standards.
Yes. Hospice is always voluntary and a patient can leave at any time to pursue curative treatment. They can also re-enroll in hospice later if needed. There is no penalty, no waiting period, and no judgment. We will always support whatever decision the patient and family make.
In most cases we can begin services within 24 to 48 hours of receiving physician orders. For urgent situations we have same-day admissions available. Cancer patients often have rapidly changing symptoms and we treat every referral with urgency, the moment you call us, we begin working to get care in place.
That’s okay. Most families don’t. Call and we’ll help you figure it out. No pressure, no commitment.
Compassionate post-acute care serving families across Southern California. Always available. Always ready.
